Right around this time of year I start receiving various gardening companies fliers and catalogs. Like Christmas advertisements they seem to come earlier and earlier each year. But unlike the holidays I start to look forward to these snippets of promises of warm weather, digging in the dirt and watching something grow in my garden.

Some of my favorite seed and plant companies are Burpees and the Gardener's Supply Company. Combing through their catalogs on a winter's night always makes me happy. Burpee always has the strangest new fangled vegetables and sometimes their exotic flowers just blow me away.

The Gardener's Supply Co. has every imaginable tool or shed device known to gardeners. Whether you're starting a garden inside in February or just need to buy something to keep the moles out of the garden they have it all.

The long cold nights of winter are here and many of us who live in the Northern hemisphere are slipping into our hibernation state of mind. If we could keep our brains engaged by using it in a different sort of way and be able to participate with the family, I believe we will receive a more beneficial outcome than the "boob tube" could give us.

One activity that is overlooked is the simple jigsaw puzzle. A puzzle is not only a one person activity but also can create entertainment for several people. We Americans really need no other excuse to eat. We've got weddings, baby showers, Labor Day BBQ's, birthdays and who knows what other reasons to come together with family and friends. I'm Thinking About Babies Today

I have no idea why these charming little cuties are on my mind but I'm thinking about babies. Those fleshy little people who smell nice (most of the time), with their skin so soft to the touch always brightens my day. Most women and men get all gushy when there is a baby in the room. We have this need to be close to them as if they are little Gods or Goddesses who draw us in to worship their innocence and helplessness. Kitty cat fans

I miss a cat. Three years ago we lost our black and white ball of fur, bag of bones 19 year old Emma. She was a stray my husband and I found on the streets. Of course, my husband complained he was allergic to cats but it didn't stop her from finding a way into his heart. We had our ups and downs with her. There was the time she fought with another mammal and the vet added many stitches to her back side. Then there was the time she just stopped eating. We spent hundreds of dollars at the vets trying to find out why she didn't eat but they sent her home after exploratory surgery with no explanation. Three days later she started to eat.

Pretty Blue Flower Design

As well as being a photographer I am also an amateur artist. One medium I enjoy is printmaking. One day whilst waiting patiently for a new shipment of linoleum blocks to come in the mail I hunted around the house to quell my artistic drive. In the kitchen I found half a red potato. It was a lonely sight and I took pity on it and decided to relive one childhood craft I had visited in over 40 years. The result is a blue flower you see here. Little girls are fun to dress up

I've been cleaning out my daughters clothes she has outgrown this week and have discovered there are items which brings back memories. What is it for Moms to become attached to our children's clothing? Are they a reminder of when are little girls were brave and were less self conscious of how they looked? From my stats I can see there are just search engines looking in but I wanted to post there are new endeavors happening for me. Although I still have my Zazzle stores;

Raku

I've added a new line Raku and revamped an old favorite in Lasgalen Arts. This morning's feature will be the newer Raku line. Raku pots were first created in Japan beginning in the 16th century. Primarily for tea pots and traditional tea ceremonies the unfinished pot goes through an extensive transformation. Using heat and smoke to create the designs found in the glazing the process is long and creates amazing effects. I have added this image with text that is customizable. I hope you enjoy my Raku pot.

I've been revamping older lines and giving them a fresh look. One parent line is In the Kitchen. It's no secret I love to cook and one of my favorite foods other than garlic is the avocado. This avocado has a twist. You see I envisioned something else inside this ripe delicious oval. A farm fresh egg sits comfortably inside. I like to play with my food. Two weekends ago there was a massive air show in town. For three days we heard screaming jets over our heads while we just worked on our daily routines. Knowing the tickets were going to be astronomical and parking brutal, we decided to find the high ground in the vicinity to see if we got lucky. After a hot day in the sun and know which direction the airport was we were rewarded with a free show.

Our real luck came as the Blue Angels soared overhead at low altitudes. We could see the yellow helmets of the pilots. I was lucky enough to take some shots before my camera lost its battery life.
